Jan Benedict

MSW, LCSW

Jan earned her B.A. in Speech Communication and Business from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and her Master of Social Work from Aurora University. After working in business, primarily focused on professional development, she returned to graduate school to pursue her passion of working with individuals to address needs that promote their personal well-being.

While training for her work in counseling, she completed internships at Family Counseling of Northern Illinois and Rockford Sexual Assault Counseling (RSAC).  Currently, she is a member of the RSAC Board of Directors.

Jan’s clinical experience includes providing behavioral health services in an in-patient setting as well as in private practice. She enjoys working with adolescents aged 16 and over and adults of all ages. She incorporates principles of Cognitive Behavioral therapy along with other modalities in her approach to helping others.  Jan has considerable experience working with clients to manage symptoms of anxiety, depression, obsessive thoughts, compulsive behavior, grief, loss, sexual assault and other traumatic experiences, challenges in self- esteem, relationship issues and concerns over work performance.

Jan uses a kind and compassionate approach in her work.  She is committed to helping others use their strengths to improve the quality of their lives.  Jan respects the unique history, experience, and beliefs that each person brings to the counseling relationship.
