Andrell Bragg-Shaw
MS, LPC

Andrell Bragg-Shaw is a Licensed Professional Counselor, as well as a National Board Certified Counselor, who provides services in a private practice setting. Andrell has earned a Master’s Degree in Counseling from National-Louis University (NLU). NLU’s Master’s in Counseling program is accredited by The Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). Prior to earning a master’s degree, Andrell also earned a Bachelor’s of Science Degree from Rockford College in Anthropology-Sociology, with an emphasis in Criminal Justice. Andrell has worked extensively with individuals with varying cognitive and physical abilities. The completion of a certified sexual assault training curriculum and a year-long clinical internship in a local not-for-profit, community based setting, has provided Andrell valuable skills required to assist those with issues related to sexual assault and abuse.

Andrell provides professional and empathetic supports to children, adolescents, and adults. Andrell's therapeutic supports are primarily based on Person-Centered, Reality, Cognitive-Behavior, and Solution-Focused therapies, with other therapies explored as needed. Andrell is skilled in the areas of sexual abuse, intellectual delays, adjustment related conditions, and behavior modifications. Appointment times are 45-50 minutes in duration. Office hours vary. Cynthia A. Brander
Psy.D., Licensed Clinical Psychologist

Cynthia (Cindy) Brander is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist. She has been a member of Counseling Associates since 2007. Dr. Brander earned her Doctorate from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology in 2006 in Clinical Psychology. She is also a member of the Illinois Psychological Association and the American Psychological Association. Dr. Brander has worked in a multitude of professional settings. She worked with a wide range of emotional and physical trauma victims at Swedish American Hospital and was a member of the trauma response team helping displaced Hurricane Katrina victims. She also volunteered her time working with underprivileged families at the Mother House Crisis Nursery through the Children’s Home and Aid Society of Illinois (CHASI). Dr. Brander works primarily with adolescents and adults with a focus on depression, anxiety, PTSD, trauma, grief and loss issues and ADHD assessments. She is also certified in Neurobiofeedback through Duke University. She operates from an integrative approach to therapy with underpinnings in the Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) and Humanistic approaches.

Marie Epling
MSW, LCSW

Marie Epling has been working at Counseling Associates of Rockford as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker since 1994. She obtained her Master’s Degree in Social Work with honors from the University of Illinois in Champaign/Urbana, Illinois in 1992. During her college training, she completed an internship at Rockford Memorial Hospital’s psychiatric unit. After graduation, she furthered her professional knowledge through training and experience at Janet Wattles Community Mental Health Center as a crisis counselor. Upon obtaining her license as a social worker, Marie began building her private practice at Counseling Associates.

Marie has extensive training and expertise in treating depressive and anxiety disorders. She treats relationship, grief, divorce, and adjustment-related conditions; as well as stress management. Also, Marie enjoys teaching communication skills including assertiveness skills and conflict resolution skills. Marie specializes in treating women’s issues such as infertility, pregnancy loss, and relationship issues. Marie primarily uses a cognitive-behavioral approach and provides individual, marital family, and group therapy.

Brian Klaung
MSW, LCSW, ACSW, DCSW

Brian Klaung has spent over 20 years in private practice. Following graduation from Rockford College in 1983 Brian worked in the public sector in the field of social work for 10 years. He spent time at Al-Care of Rockford now commonly known as Rosecrance Center Harrison Campus, Winnebago County Juvenile Probation, The Mildred Berry Center, The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services and Rockford Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Klaung had an extensive background in the public sector which prepared him for private practice. While working at the DCFS Brian completed a Masters Degree in Social Work from the University of Illinois in Urbana Champaign. Brian did his internship at the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, where he developed and implemented a Treatment Foster Care Program. He then completed his clinical supervision for his License in Clinical Social Work at Rockford Memorial Hospital.

Brian then joined Counseling and Evaluation Center in 1991 where he specialized in working with children, adolescents and families, especially those children with disruptive behavior disorders. He later moved his private practice to the University of Illinois Medical School Department of Psychiatry. He left U of I in 1998 to join his business partner Marie Epling, LCSW at Counseling Associates of Rockford.

Mr. Klaung now has a general clinical practice where he sees adults, adolescents and children. Mr. Klaung continues to treat a variety of conditions and lectures upon request. He has taught in the past at the University of Illinois Medical School.

Jason Soriano
Psy.D.

Jason Soriano is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist who has been with Counseling Associates of Rockford for over two years. Jason earned his Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Wisconsin in Madison where he volunteered with adolescents in an alternative middle school in the Madison area. After graduating from UW-Madison, Jason worked as a substance abuse technician at the Rosecrance Griffin Williamson Campus in Rockford, IL.  While employed at Rosecrance, Jason worked with adolescents and their families on treating substance abuse and other co-occurring mental health challenges.
After two years of employment at Rosecrance, Jason entered into the PsyD program at the Adler School of Professional Psychology in Chicago where he spent the next five years earning his Masters degree in Counseling and Doctorate in Clinical Psychology. During his graduate training, Jason trained with a variety of populations in the public sector. His previous training experiences include children and adolescents, LGBTQ populations, and couples and adults with co-occurring mental health and substance abuse diagnoses. 
Jason works primarily with adults and adolescents and specializes in working with families who are adjusting to significant life changes such as depression, anxiety, substance use, adjustment problems, and grief. He operates from a psychodynamic perspective and provides individual and group therapy. He also specializes in psychological testing and is readily available for presentations. 
Office hours for appointments with Jason are available Monday through Friday with some Saturday availabilities. Jason has both daytime and evening hours. Appointments are 45-60 minutes long. Please call the office at (815) 398-7000 if you have any questions.

James Viggiano
Ph.D.

Jim Viggiano is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist.  He graduated from Rutgers University-Camden and earned a Master’s degree from Connecticut College and a Ph.D. from Catholic University of America.  He has been a licensed psychologist since 1980 and has worked in a variety of clinical settings including psychiatric hospitals, residential treatment centers for children and correctional facilities.  For nearly 17 years he was the Director of Clinical Services at Janet Wattles Center, now the Rosecrance – Ware Center.
Over the course of his career he has worked with children, adolescents, adults and families.  He is skilled in a number of therapies such as cognitive-behavioral and dialectical behavior therapy which includes mindfulness, interpersonal and emotional regulation skill training.  He is trained in EMDR which is helpful for relieving the effects of trauma and he applies the Course in Miracles model to assist with forgiveness and spirituality. He is also skilled in assessment for diagnosis of ADHD and other disorders to assist clients in getting the best treatment for their condition.  Over the past decade he has assessed candidates for surgical procedures that assist in weight loss.  He has also helped individuals in achieving weight loss goals.
